Airport location, terminals and transportation
Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is considered to be the busiest one among such air terminals. Its passenger traffic amounts to 105 million people per year. More than half of the flights performed are domestic. The airport was established in 1925, on the place where the motor-vehicle proving ground had used to be located. The airport got its current name after the mayors of the city of Atlanta, Maynard Jackson and William B. Hartsfield, who had made great contributions to the development of air transport and modernization of the airport. It is situated close to the centre of Atlanta, only 15 km from it. The terminals of the airport are connected by the underground train system (SkyTrain)as well as by passages with travelators. The Domestic Terminal is divided into Terminal South, Terminal North (they form a single building of domestic flights) and Concourses T, A, B, C, D, E, and F. The latter two concourses are used for international flights. In addition to 5 runways, the airport has a helicopter pad.
The airport is connected to the city centre by the urban underground line, buses, and taxis. One can also hire a car. The Airport station is placed in the centre of the main terminal. The bus to the city departs from the Northern side of the Domestic Terminal.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
The offices of all the companies providing car rental services at the airport are found in the centre of the terminal, between its Northern and Southern sides, next to the escalators and lifts. You can get to the offices with the help of the passages, the escalators and the lifts from the baggage claim points from the Northern and the Southern sides of the terminal. Being in the Southern side, you should turn left, leaving the baggage claim area, and being in the Northern one, you should turn right.
The SkyTrain (underground train) takes customers to the Rental Car Center, in the north from the Domestic Terminal. Its line runs nearby. Besides, you can reach it on foot, it will take you only a few minutes. The Center features then following companies: Advantage, Dollar, Hertz, Thrifty, Budget, Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Sixt, EZ, Enterprise, National, and Payless. The Center operates round the clock. A free shuttle, that runs 4 times per hour, takes clients from the International Terminal (Concourses E and F) to the Rental Car Center and back.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
Hartsfield‒Jackson Atlanta International Airport encompasses several types of parking. These are hourly and daily paid parking lots near the Northern and the Southern sides. Short-term parking lots are in the immediate vicinity of the entrances to the terminals. Covered 4-level long-term parking lots are placed opposite both the terminals. Economy parking is positioned in the west from the Domestic Terminal and the parking lots of the Northern and the Southern sides. There is a separate car park next to the international departure halls.
The hotels near the airport provide a free shuttle service from the terminal and back for their customers. The shuttle picks the passengers up at Violet Gate on the west side of the Terminal (between the Northern and the Southern sides). You can learn the information about the nearest hotels, the availability of a shuttle service to them and their contact details near the baggage claim points. The following hotels are located beside the airport: the Baymont Inn & Suites, the Best Western, the Comfort Inn & Suites, the Comfort Suites Atlanta, the Country Hearth Inn & Suites, the Country Inn & Suites, the Courtyard by Marriott, and the Crowne Plaza.
