Car Rental in Stockholm

Family car rental in Stockholm

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Sweden traditionally include the following vehicles: VW Passat, Renault Scenic, Peugeot 508, Ford Mondeo, Hyundai Sonata, Mercedes A Class and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Stockholm borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Stockholm might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Stockholm!

Driving Advices for Sweden – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
It is forbidden to install radar detectors in cars. Violators of this rule will have to pay the fine of 200 euros. The use of the prohibited device can also result in the imprisonment of up to 6 months. The violation also includes a mandatory confiscation of the device.
You may see long arrows added to some roads. Contrary to a popular belief, these arrows do not indicate the direction of movement. The arrows indicate the distance that drivers should follow while driving.
Drivers can learn a lot of useful information in police stations and national automobile clubs. For example, police departments usually have special free maps that indicate all parking areas in the city.

Rental, parking and other info on Stockholm - Airport Arlanda
Stockholm Arlanda Airport is a Swedish international airport located near the town of Märsta. The distance between the airport and Stockholm amounts to 43 km. It is among the three largest Scandinavian airports and is the largest one in Sweden. It started functioning in 1959 as a training airport, and later began handling regular flights, including intercontinental ones. Its name is derived from the historic name of the parish in the territory of which the airport is now situated. The airport routinely operates 3 runways and comprises 4 passenger terminals, which are Terminals 2, 3, 4, and 5. The terminals are linked by walkways and shuttle buses. The annual passenger traffic of the airport makes up 25 million people.

The fastest way to Stockholm from the airport is the Arlanda Express high-speed train service. One of the stations is positioned below the shopping centre, placed between Terminals 4 and 5. Commuter and long-distance trains also pass through the airport. Airport Shuttle is a much more practical alternative to trains and taxis to get to the centre of Stockholm. Moreover, one can request a transfer to Stockholm. Shuttle buses go to the city centre, Stockholm Central Station, railway stations and the other airport of Stockholm. It is remarkable that a helicopter rental service is available at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

One may rent a car at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Several vehicle hire firms operate at ARN. They are Sixt car rental, Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Budget, and Thrifty. The offices of the car rental agencies are located at Arlanda's car rental area, except for Sixt car rental. The office of this firm is found in the long-term parking lot (Low-price parking facility Alfa P3). Free transfer buses run to the rental car collection points of these companies all the time. The transfer buses connect not only the car rental offices but also the long-term car parks and the hotels lying in the territory of the airport.

In order to get to Avis, Hertz, Europcar, and Budget from Terminals 5, 4, and 2, you should catch the transfer bus going to long-term parking P2 Beta. So as to reach Sixt car rental from the same terminals, you need to use the transfer bus to long-term parking P3 Alfa. Cars are collected from and returned to the car rental company's office, unless otherwise has been agreed. There is age restriction for drivers. They must be aged between 25 and 69 years. Read all...
Traveling in Stockholm with family car
Stockholm is a city of a rare beauty. Everyone, who has ever been there, will surely agree with this statement. For many tourists it will be a real discovery to see how different quarters of Stockholm managed to retain their own unique character and charm. A huge difference in height and various places in Söder quarter that offer beautiful views of the city are fundamentally different from narrow streets of the medieval old town or big parks of Djurgarden quarter laid out on the site of former pastures. Cozy shopping streets around Stureplan and the covered market in Ostermalm quarter also have their unique atmosphere.

Skansen Museum.
Since 1891 Skansen, the oldest ethnographic museum in the open air in the world, has been the favorite place for unhurried walks among Stockholm residents of all ages. In Skansen the past comes alive. This is the place where visitors will be able to see beautiful old farms, manor houses and shops from different parts of Sweden. Probably, this is the only place where one can see a blacksmith or a glassblower at work or can buy custom-made candies in a small pastry shop. The museum, the territory of which is 300,000 square meters, even has a zoo. The zoo has become home to typical northern animals - wolves, bears, wolverines, reindeers, and, of course, moose. All the animals live in spacious enclosures.
