If your routes in Spain are foreseen to pass through hilly areas or mountains, it is not recommended to consider very small cars for rental. Their engines are usually insufficient for a confident driving on the roads with long or steep climbs.

At the rental office in Salamanca, consider to take a 'Breakdown Assistance' package or ask an officer for a contact data to use in case of a vehicle breakdown. Cheap cars are sometimes unpredictable in operation.

Driving Advices for Spain – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
Foreign guests must pay fines right “on the road”, otherwise they need to name a guarantor - a citizen of Spain, who can guarantee the timely payment of the fine instead of the violator. If a driver refuses to pay, the police can confiscate his vehicle until full repayment.
If you pay the fine within 20 days of receiving the receipt, you can get a decent "discount" of up to 50%. If a driver appeals against the fine, he loses the right for the discount. One of the largest fines is charged for the use of radar detectors - 6,000 euro.
Serious violations imply not only paying large fines. Drivers also get special penalty points. Once the number of these points reaches the critical level, a driver loses his driving license temporarily.

A vivid architectural monument in the late Roman style is the church of San Martin. It was built in the 12th century. Despite numerous changes and reconstructions, some elements of the church have remained in a pristine way. On the north side of the building, you can see a beautiful bas-relief with the image of St. Martin. It has not changed externally for more than 700 years.

The Church of the Holy Spirit is a historical monument of a later period. Its construction took place in the 16th century. Miniature carved pinnacles are an important distinctive feature of the building. They frame the church building around the perimeter. The interior design is also incredibly interesting. It retains the main altar, created in 1659.
