Car Rental in Madeira

Family car rental in Madeira

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Portugal traditionally include the following vehicles: Mercedes C Class, Mercedes A Class, Toyota Avensis, Hyundai Sonata, Renault Scenic, Renault Megane and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Madeira borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Madeira might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Madeira!

Previous hints
Drivers, who have the driving experience of less than one year, should follow other rules. The maximum allowed speed for them is 90 km/h even on the roads, where the speed limit is higher.
The maximum permitted blood alcohol content is 0.2‰. If the alcohol test result ranges from 0.2‰ to 0.8‰, the driver will be issued a fine of 250-1250 euro, and his driving license will be suspended for a period from 1 to 12 months.
If the alcohol test result is from 0.8‰ to 1.2‰, the sum of the fine will be much larger - from 500 to 2500 euro. The suspension of the driving license for a period of 2-24 months is a typical additional punishment. If the blood alcohol content exceeds 1.2‰, then the driver’s license will be suspended for up to three years, and he will face the imprisonment of up to one year.

Traveling in Madeira with family car
Having tried out the amazing pools, head to Madeira's main observation point - Cabo Girão . Few people know that it is the highest cliff in Europe the second highest in the world. The height of the cliff is 580 meters. The cliff offers a stunning view of Câmara de Lobos , and in clear weather, you can even see the landscapes of Funchal . Having climbed such a vertiginous height, get up the nerve to look down. Here, right at the shore of the ocean, you can see small gardens that belong to local people. They have grown incredibly delicious fruits and vegetables in this amazing area for many years.

Madeira also has some amazing landmarks, which only few experienced travelers are aware of. Look for one of such places in the picturesque village of Camara de Lobos - this is the so-called "Winston Churchill Viewpoint". This is the name of a small platform where the British Prime Minister set up his easel and did paintings in the mid-20th century. Of course, this historical fact did not remain unnoticed by inhabitants of the small town. The site is still well-preserved, and an information plate in the form of an easel was fixed on the nearest building. It is pretty easy to find this symbolic place - the site is located near a fur seal fountain. Nearby is the cozy restaurant Cherchills , and if you believe the stories of locals, Winston Churchill has visited it a number of times more than 60 years ago.
