Car Rental in Queenstown

Convertible rental in Queenstown

The most widespread cabriolet models offered for rent in New Zealand are: Renault Megane Cabriolet, Audi A5 Cabriolet and Ford Mustang Convertible.

At the booking time, please check the rental conditions carefully. Quite often, rental offices in Queenstown require two credit cards to guarantee issuance of a cabrio or a roadster.

We recommend ordering additional no-excess insurance that covers your risk (franchise), since the franchise amount for cabriolets in New Zealand is quite high.

Make sure to inspect the rental invoice issued at the office in Queenstown and compare it with the information indicated in your voucher. Sometimes, rental officers make 'unintentional' mistakes in rental invoices.

In parking garage, examine the vehicle for defects and scratches carefully. If you find any of them, check whether they have been specified in your rental document.

When parking a cabriolet in Queenstown, it is recommended to unfold the roof and close windows in order to prevent theft or robbery.

Driving Advices for New Zealand – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
Until March 2012 there was a unique rule in New Zealand. This rule has absolutely no equivalents anywhere else in the world. The rule was the following: when making a near turn at an unregulated intersection, the driver needed to give way to a car moving in the opposite direction if it was making a long turn in the same direction.
This unusual rule had power on the roads of the country during 35 years, and it is impossible to find out the reason why it appeared. According to one version, at an intersection, drivers had to give way to vehicles that were making a more complicated maneuver. Until recently, that unusual rule was a true "road attraction".
There are some road sections where overtaking is prohibited. However, even if overtaking is allowed, it is still not recommended to maneuver a lot – local roads are quite narrow and overtaking on them is always a risk. In no case should drivers overtake cars on the roads with double yellow line markings. These roads are considered the most dangerous ones for maneuvers.
