Car Rental in Kaunas

Family car rental in Kaunas

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Lithuania traditionally include the following vehicles: Hyundai Elantra, Mercedes C Class, Toyota Avensis, Hyundai Sonata, Renault Scenic, Renault Megane and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Kaunas borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Kaunas might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Kaunas!

Previous hints
Drivers, who will visit Lithuania for the first time, are not recommended to drive on country roads at night. If in residential areas main roads are usually well lit, in the countryside road lighting is really poor. At night, trucks have become a serious source of danger for drivers as trucks often move with no parking lights.
Travellers should be particularly careful when travelling in historic districts of the cities. In some cities, it is not allowed to enter their territory by car. As a rule, in many historic areas the majority of roads are narrow with one-way traffic, so even locals often cannot find the right way.
In summer, you may be forced to pay to enter the territory of some resort areas. Palanga and Curonian Spit are among such areas. As a rule, the toll for an ordinary car is about 15 litai.

The most advantageous way to pay for your purchases is to use the national currency. Some shops of restaurants may accept euros and the U.S. dollars, but at an extremely disadvantageous rate. You can exchange money at a bank or in one of currency exchange offices. Please keep in mind that the closer an exchange office is located to a hotel, the less favorable rate and conditions of exchange it will provide.

Tips are not officially accepted in restaurants and cafes, but if you want to thank a helpful waiters, feel free to leave a small monetary reward. The tip of 5 - 10% of the total order will be enough. Visitors can also round off the amount indicated in the bill in a big way to any convenient sum.

Locals are very friendly and welcoming. Feel free to ask them for help in case you need it. There is a simple way to please indigenous people - to learn a few phrases in their native language.
