Car Rental in Rijeka

Family car rental in Rijeka

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Kroatia traditionally include the following vehicles: VW Passat, Honda Accord, Audi A3, Toyota Avensis, Hyundai Sonata, Renault Megane and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Rijeka borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Rijeka might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Rijeka!

Driving Advices for Kroatia – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
Petrol stations usually sell diesel fuel and unleaded petrol (95 and 98). Drivers should also not forget that in Croatia it is prohibited to transport petrol in cans. Gas filling stations are usually located in big cities and near highways.
The majority of petrol stations are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. In summer, some petrol stations may work until 22:00. 24/7 petrol stations can be usually found next to main highways, as well as in the center of large cities. The cost of fuel is usually high. You will have to pay approximately 10 kuna for one liter of 95-octane petrol.
In case of a breakdown you can always call road services by dialing 987, and in case of an accident do not forget to call the police (their short phone number is 92). To call the emergency, you need to use the phone number 94.

Traveling in Rijeka with family car

The largest port city in Croatia and a major transportation center, Rijeka is also a popular tourist area.

The central part of the city, which is called Korzo, is the most notable in Rijeka. There is absolutely no transport here and all streets are pedestrians only. During your walk in this city you will be able to see most popular shops and restaurants, visit new movie theaters, or simply relax in a park. One of the most colorful markets of the city is also located here. Visitors usually adore traditional gifts of Rijeka, which the locals call moric. These are small items depicting heads of Moor made of silver. These may be small brooches, pendants or earrings. Many interesting legends are associated with this kind of souvenir and every trader or a local resident will gladly tell you a couple of them.

There are also several historical attractions in the city. They are mostly located in the so-called Old Town. The City Tower, which has been standing here since ancient times, is the symbolic entrance to the Old Town. It is decorated with images of the great Austrian Emperors Charles VI and Leopold I. Don’t forget to visit Trsat Castle as this is one of the most significant architectural complexes of Rijeka. The castle is located on one of the highest hills of the city. After the excursion in the castle you can go to the observation area and enjoy the beautiful panorama of the city. The construction of the castle took place in the 13th century. In order to reach the entrance to the castle from the foot of the hill, visitors will need to pass 538 steps of steep stairs. Those tourists, who wish to make the excursion more comfortable, can use a funicular lift. Besides the beautiful castle, which is built in the late Gothic style, the hill is the location of Church of Trsat Mother of God and Franciscan Monastery. These are the most important religious sights of Rijeka.
