In settlements, drivers are allowed to move at a speed that does not exceed 50 km/h, and on country roads the maximum allowed speed is 90 km/h. On motorways, the limit is 110 or 130 km/h, depending on the type of the road. Note that all the restrictions mentioned are valid in case there are no road signs with other directions.
The maximum allowed blood alcohol content for drivers is 0.5 ‰. Drivers under 24 years old are prohibited from drinking alcohol at all. If you pass the alcohol test, and your blood alcohol content is from 0.5 to 1.0‰, then you will be issued a fine that will range from 1,000 to 2,000 kuna.
If the blood alcohol level is between 1.0 and 1.5‰, then the amount of the fine will be increased and will range from 2,000 to 5,000 kuna. If the blood alcohol level is more than 1.5‰, then the amount of the fine will be from 5,000 to 15,000 kuna. In the latter case the driver is also likely to be imprisoned for up to two months.
