Car Rental in Bergamo

Family car rental in Bergamo

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Italy traditionally include the following vehicles: Mercedes C Class, Mercedes A Class, Toyota Avensis, Hyundai Sonata, Renault Scenic, Renault Megane and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Bergamo borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Bergamo might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Bergamo!

Driving Advices for Italy – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
Local drivers often ignore speed limits. However, foreign visitors should not break the local traffic regulations. Fines for violation of the traffic rules in Italy are the highest in Europe.
For example, for a speeding of 5 - 30 km/h one can get a fine of 30 - 200 euro. Drivers, who exceed the speed for more than 30 km/h, will receive a fine between 400 and 1400 euro, and will be suspended from driving a vehicle.
Do not hope that speeding will be unnoticed. There are many radars on roads, and they accurately capture even a slightest deviation from the normal speed. However, drivers also should not move slower than the speed indicated on road signs - it will certainly displease local drivers.

Traveling in Bergamo with family car
The territory of Bergamo is conventionally divided into two parts. Bergamo Alto district takes you back to the Middle Ages. This is a great place, which is home to a huge number of historical attractions. The district called Bergamo Basso is the modern part of the city. Start your observation of this part of the city from visiting Piazza Vecchia. The square is home to several beautiful architectural places of interest that are definitely worth making a visit. The facade of the magnificent building Palazzo della Ragione is decorated with the figure of a lion. The building was built in the beginning of the 12th century and has long been used as a city hall. In the beginning of the 16th century its main gallery was almost completely rebuilt and then was used to hold the audiences of Venetian governors. Nowadays the old city hall is the location of priceless frescoes by Bramante. The precious artifacts were brought here from various churches and cathedrals from different parts of Bergamo.

However, Contarini fountain named after its founder remains the main decoration of the square. The tallest building of the historic district of Bergamo can be also found here. This is the clock tower Torre del Campanone. The tower is also known as one of the main symbols of the city. In 1486 it was severely damaged by fire, but later the tower was completely rebuilt. Walking through the gallery halls of the tower, you can reach another beautiful area - Piazza del Duomo Square. The square is the location of a prominent religious landmark of Bergamo - Santa Maria Maggiore Church. All newcomers are surely amazed by the magnificent portal of the church, which is designed in Romanesque style, as well as its luxurious hall made in Baroque style. Without a doubt, the main relic of the basilica is the gravestone of the famous composer Donizetti, who was born in Bergamo.
