Car Rental in Ios Island

Family car rental in Ios Island

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Greece traditionally include the following vehicles: Toyota Camry, Nissan Maxima, Mercedes C Class, BMW 3 Series, Toyota Altis, Renault Megane and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Ios Island borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Ios Island might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Ios Island!

Driving Advices for Greece – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
In general, the local police are friendly and they treat drivers from other countries with understanding and respect. The driving license may be withdrawn only for a very serious violation, but it is not a reason to follow the behavior of local drivers and ignore rules that may seem minor and unimportant at first glance.
There are almost no traffic jams on toll roads. The reason for this fact is that local drivers move at a very high speed on highways, so traffic jams are possible only in case there is a serious road accident.
Roads in the country are the most terrible roads for foreign drivers. Despite the speed limit of 80 km/h, local drivers rarely move on them at a speed below 120 km/h. As a rule, two-lane roads have rather broad shoulders, so many cautious drivers prefer to move on them.

Traveling in Ios Island with family car
Siesta plays a great role here. Try to plan your holiday, because almost all the cafes and shops are closed from 2 to 5 o’clock. Locals spend their free time sleeping or lying on the beach. Greeks love to gather around the table with friends and family, drink retsina and ouzo and discuss the day's events. There is a great number of taverns on the island. What's interesting, they are always all full of people. You should make every effort to find a free table in an evening. Despite the fact that local citizens love to drink retsina and ouzo, you will hardly meet drunk people on the streets. This is because invariable behaviour is a disgrace for Greeks. So, if you don’t want to be condemned by locals, try to control yourself.
It is customary to greet everyone in a tavern, shop or bank. It is customed to shake hands only at the first meeting. Then, people greet each other with a kiss on the cheeks. People usually refer to each other by the second name here. Locals are very hot-tempered people. They use a lot of hand movements, raise their voice and interrupt each other. The most important Orthodox holidays are celebrated on Ios. One of the most impressive and beautiful customs here is Klidonas that has its roots in antiquity. It is celebrated every year in June.

Greeks love to teach people and it is getting worse with age, but elderly people are highly respected in Greece. Local residents can often live with their parents up to 30. Most of the locals create their own families late, but they try to build strong relationships. However, Greek men love to flirt with different women and pay compliments, but you shouldn’t take it seriously. Locals are very hospitable and they always try to lavish care upon their guests. What's interesting, if a Greek invites you to his house, it doesn’t mean that you will have a meal there.
