Car Rental in Chania

SUV rental in Chania

The most popular SUV models offered at rental locations in Chania are: BMW X3, Toyota Rav4, Kia Sportage, Suzuki Jimny, Toyota Landcruiser, Hyundai Tuscon and others.

While selecting your preferred model of an off-road vehicle, please examine the rental conditions. In particular, those requirements that concern credit cards – when it comes to renting an expensive car, sometimes offices in Greece ask information about two credit cards.

Before signing the contract in the rental office upon arrival, check that the invoice figures match with figures in your voucher.

Once the vehicle is assigned, inspect it carefully before leaving the parking. Crossovers and SUVs are often used in tough road conditions, therefore scratches and other exteriour defects are inevitable. Due to this, it is important to check and specify all existing defects in your rental documents.

If you plan to use an off-road vehicle in the mountains, it is recommended to order snow chains. This will save you from unexpected incidents. Other important equipment in Greece are mandatory child seats for travellers with children. OrangeSmile.com wishes you a safe trip and green lights on the roads of Chania!

Driving Advices for Greece – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
When driving, the driver and all passengers in the vehicle must fasten seat belts. The fine for violation of this rule is 350 euro and withdrawal of the driving license for 10 days.
Driving in a drunken state is also considered a serious violation. The maximum permitted level of alcohol in blood is 0.5 ppm. When a driver is caught for the first time, he/she will have to pay a fine of from 200 to 2,000 euro. In case the driver is caught for the second time, a maximum amount of fine will be charged.
If a fine is paid within 10 days of its issue, it is possible to get a “discount” of 50%. Despite such heavy fines, local drivers do not bother to follow traffic regulations. Because of this disciplined tourists often become participants of car accidents on local roads.

Enjoying SUV and sightseeing of Chania
In the center of the historical district of Chania, there is the Cathedral of the Three Martyrs that is the main cathedral in the city. The history of the temple is very interesting. In the 14th century, the St. Blessed Virgin Church was built at its site. Its main relic was the ancient icon. In the middle of the 17th century, the city was conquered by the Turks. They reconstructed the old church and opened the soap factory here. The main relic of the church has been preserved and stored in a warehouse for several hundred years. In the second half of the 19th century, one of the factory workers dreamed of the St. Virgin. She specified a path to the icon. When it was found, the temple was restored. Now, it is one of the most beautiful religious monuments in the neoclassic style.

In the city and its surroundings, there are several old monasteries, one of which is the Orthodox Gouverneto Monastery. It was found in 1548 but the founder’s name is still unknown. According to one of the legends, the initiator of the monastery construction was one of the wealthy local residents. The initial building was used for defensive purposes, so it resembles an impregnable fortress. The monastery was damaged in the period of the Second World War. It was completely restored only a few years ago.
