Car Rental in Berlin

SUV rental in Berlin

The most popular SUV models offered at rental locations in Berlin are: Toyota Landcruiser, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Tuscon, Suzuki Jimny, Kia Sportage, Toyota Rav4 and others.

While selecting your preferred model of an off-road vehicle, please examine the rental conditions. In particular, those requirements that concern credit cards – when it comes to renting an expensive car, sometimes offices in Germany ask information about two credit cards.

Before signing the contract in the rental office upon arrival, check that the invoice figures match with figures in your voucher.

Once the vehicle is assigned, inspect it carefully before leaving the parking. Crossovers and SUVs are often used in tough road conditions, therefore scratches and other exteriour defects are inevitable. Due to this, it is important to check and specify all existing defects in your rental documents.

If you plan to use an off-road vehicle in the mountains, it is recommended to order snow chains. This will save you from unexpected incidents. Other important equipment in Germany are mandatory child seats for travellers with children. OrangeSmile.com wishes you a safe trip and green lights on the roads of Berlin!

Driving Advices for Germany – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
For locals a personal car is more an element of high comfort than just a vehicle. Residents of big cities use private cars in exceptional cases, and in everyday life they try to use public transport.
There may be large traffic jams in the daytime in all large cities of the country. They start early in the morning – it may be hard to drive on the main city roads even at 7 am. These traffic jams “dissolve” only late at night. Traffic jams are particularly strong on roads of large cities of Germany during school holidays.
Cyclists are also full road users. There are special tracks for cyclists along some roads. When turning right, drivers should be very careful, because cyclists continue their movement at this time on the right lane.

Rental, parking and other info on Berlin - Tegel Airport
Berlin Tegel Airport bears the name of Otto Lilienthal, the German pioneer of aviation. It is built on the site of the former rocket firing range in the Tegel locality, a section of the borough of Reinickendorf. The airport served as a military airfield of the French Air Force. It began accommodating flights in 1948, but started functioning as a civilian airport only in 1960. It was the only air terminal in the western part of Berlin for a long time. Nowadays the passenger traffic of the airport amounts to roughly 20 million people per year. It handles a lot of international flights. The airport encompasses two runways and 5 passenger terminals, which are A, B, C, D, and E.

The airport is located close to the city centre. The connection to the airport is provided by shuttle buses (the TXL express bus runs via the main streets of Berlin to Alexanderplatz; the 109, 128, and X9 express buses run to the suburbs of Berlin), taxis and transfer. Bus stops are situated outside Terminals A and B, and also on the lower level of Terminal E. Taxi stops are positioned next to Terminals A, C, and D. There are no metro stations and railways in the territory of TXL. Car sharing services, provided by several operators, are available. Moreover, the airport offers car rental services.

In order to rent a car at Berlin Tegel Airport, you should apply to the car rental centre. The desks of the agencies are found in front of parking lot P2 and in Terminal E, on the lower level. The number of companies provides their vehicle rental services to the passengers of TXL in the car rental service centre. These are Budget, Sixt, Avis, Enterprise, National, Alamo, Hertz, Thrifty, Europcar, Dollar, Buchbinder, and Global Rent-a-Car. The companies offer a wide range of models starting from reasonably priced cars to premium-class ones. Besides, discount programs are available on a regular basis. The leased vehicles are returned at the rental car pick-up locations, that is in parking lot P2.

The firms serve their customers from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. On weekends they start working at 8 a.m. Passengers arriving at night are recommended to make preliminary reservations through the website of any selected company. In this case, your car will have stood in the parking lot of the airport waiting for you by the time of your arrival. The car hire companies operate round the clock online through the website of the airport or through other services.

When concluding a rental agreement you are required to present your international driver's license, the reservation voucher, and your bank card. There are certain restrictions. The driving experience must exceed 3 years and the driver must be aged 21 or over. Read all...

Each of these buildings is considered a valuable historical attraction; many of these buildings have been turned into museums and art galleries.

Fans of long unhurried walks should visit the park named Great Tiergarten (Großer Tiergarten). There are also some places of interest on its territory. These are Church of St. Matthew, one of prominent religious sights of this place, and a famous historical monument - Victory Column. Walk to the middle of the park, and you will reach a beautiful area called Big Star. There is one more park near the city center. This is Treptower Park mostly famous for its memorial cemetery, where are buried the Soviet soldiers who fell in World War II. You will see numerous interesting monuments installed in the park. The majority of them are the reminders of the tragic events of the war.
