Car Rental in Santo Domingo

Family car rental in Santo Domingo

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Dominikana traditionally include the following vehicles: Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet Impala, Oldsmobile Alero, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Avensis, Nissan Primera and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Santo Domingo borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Santo Domingo might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Santo Domingo!

Previous hints
The police are very concerned about the use of seat belts. In the Dominican Republic drivers can easily exceed the permitted speed, pass a red light, cut in front of other vehicles, but they will never start moving with the unfastened seat belt.
However, there is a surprising fact – there are no specific rules regarding the transportation of small children in the car. Safety of children is left at sole discretion of their parents.
It is strictly forbidden to talk on a cell phone while driving. This rule is also strictly controlled.

Alcázar de Colón Palace is a vivid monument of colonial times. It was built in the 16th century and is a true example of Gothic style. Originally, the palace belonged to the son of Christopher Columbus and used to be his favorite residence. Within the next century, his descendants owned the palace. In the middle of the 20th century, the building of the palace was fully reconstructed. Now it houses a historical museum and presents unique exhibits from the Middle Ages and collections of the colonial period.

There are several nice thematic museums in the city, as well. The Sugar Cane and Rum Museum is among them. Its opening was held a little while ago, in 2008. The museum occupies a beautiful building of the 16th century. For the Dominican Republic, rum remains one of the main national drinks. Its production at local plants is still carried out by old recipes. The exposition is devoted to the history of rum production. Visitors can see old barrels where the drink was kept and exciting thematic pictures. Right in the museum, is a shop and an excellent bar, where you can taste popular varieties of local rum.
