Car Rental in Nicosia

Family car rental in Nicosia

The segments of standard, intermediate and full-size cars in Cyprus traditionally include the following vehicles: Audi A4, VW Passat, Renault Scenic, Honda Accord, Peugeot 508, Audi A3 and others.

The process of a car reservation on OrangeSmile.com consists of 3 simple steps: (1) search by the dates and pick-up location, (2) car type selection, and (3) booking form completion. After the booking, you will receive a rental voucher at your e-mail address.

Before selecting a specific model to book, check your planned routes. If you are going to drive mostly within the Nicosia borders, choose a car of 'Standard' or 'Compact' types. In case you plan long cross-countries trips or mountain adventures, the more comfortable and powerful 'Fullsize' models would become a better choice.

If you need a car with an automatic gearbox, try to make a reservation at least a few days before the pick-up date, since confirmation of such models in Nicosia might be delayed for a day or two.

Upon the return of your car, carefully check that the total payment amount (invoice) is computed according to the original rental conditions.

We wish you 'smooth', secure and safe roads in Nicosia!

Driving Advices for Cyprus – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
Traffic regulations in Cyprus are controlled by means of cameras. Each year more and more cameras appear on the roads of the country. Local drivers have found the best way to avoid punishment - they intentionally scratch and bend car license plates, so that it will be impossible to identify them on camera photographs. You should pay attention to cleanliness and proper condition of the license plate, because driving with dirty or bent numbers will result in a fine.
Mountain roads of Cyprus are worth a separate mentioning as they never cease to attract curious tourists. Roads laid in mountainous regions of the country are very narrow and winding, and in some areas of such roads there is hardly enough space for one car. If on a narrow mountain road there are two cars that cannot pass each other, one car needs to move backwards until it reaches a wider place. According to an unwritten rule, the driver of a smaller vehicle should give way.
Quite often you can see huge tour buses on mountain roads. As a rule, these buses are followed by a row of trucks and carts. Do not try to overtake in such a situation as it may be dangerous. It is better to move patiently together with the flow of vehicles. On narrow mountain roads that often have no fences every extra maneuver is always a risk.

An important architectural monument of the city is the Archbishop's Palace, even though it was built recently, in 1960. The three-story neo-Byzantine-style building features a rich interior decoration. The facade of the palace is decorated with exquisite sculptures and moldings, its walls keep valuable works of art and antique furniture. The palace is officially closed for excursions, but some of its parts can still be viewed. On the first floor of the palace, there is a library and several museums representing collections of archaeological and historical finds.

Not far from Nicosia is an important archaeological site where the ruins of the ancient city of Tamassos were discovered. Historians know very little about this city: according to some sources, the first settlements appeared here in the prehistoric era. The city was founded near the large copper deposits. The extraction of this metal allowed the city to successfully develop and prosper for hundreds of years. By the 10th century, the mines were almost completely depleted, the city came to desolation and soon was completely abandoned.

State Gallery of Contemporary Cypriot Art opened in 1994 is sure to please every fan of contemporary painting. Of course, it has a permanent exhibition including works by famous Cypriot artists of the 19th century. In addition, the gallery regularly holds exhibitions of contemporary painters. While visiting the exhibition, you can not only admire the beautiful paintings but also buy artworks you like.
