Car Rental in Ottawa

SUV rental in Ottawa

The most popular SUV models offered at rental locations in Ottawa are: Nissan Pathfinder 4WD, Toyota Landcruiser, Chrysler Journey, Chevrolet Blazer, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Cherokee and others.

While selecting your preferred model of an off-road vehicle, please examine the rental conditions. In particular, those requirements that concern credit cards – when it comes to renting an expensive car, sometimes offices in Canada ask information about two credit cards.

Before signing the contract in the rental office upon arrival, check that the invoice figures match with figures in your voucher.

Once the vehicle is assigned, inspect it carefully before leaving the parking. Crossovers and SUVs are often used in tough road conditions, therefore scratches and other exteriour defects are inevitable. Due to this, it is important to check and specify all existing defects in your rental documents.

If you plan to use an off-road vehicle in the mountains, it is recommended to order snow chains. This will save you from unexpected incidents. Other important equipment in Canada are mandatory child seats for travellers with children. OrangeSmile.com wishes you a safe trip and green lights on the roads of Ottawa!

Driving Advices for Canada – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
In many Canadian cities foreign tourists will be surprised to see very original road markings. For example, zebra crossing that is so familiar to many drivers can be made in the form of a huge striped sign, painted in bright colors and include other original artistic elements. Road markings in Montreal are considered among the most beautiful in the country. These markings were developed by a well-known contemporary artist Peter Gibson.
Many experienced drivers can notice that the majority of road signs have rather an advisory than a mandatory meaning. They are designed to keep drivers alerted, so that they remain attentive and ready to unexpected situations while driving, giving a much needed consideration to other participants of traffic.
One may see large banners along the roads that are located between settlements. These banners indicate the distance to the closest hotels, patrol stations, cafes, tourist attractions, shopping centers and other facilities that might interest travelers.

Rental, parking and other info on Ottawa - Airport
Macdonald-Cartier International Airport is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The distance between the airport and Ottawa is 10.5 km. The airport was founded on a plateau by the Ottawa Flying Club in the late 1920s. A school of the demolished farming community of Bowesville used to stand on the site of the main passenger terminal. The airport was used as a military air base by the Canadian Air Force for some time. Now the forces of the Royal Canadian Air Force (without a military base status) are placed at the airport to accompany state vehicles. The airport was renamed in honour of John Macdonald and George Cartier, remarkable Canadian politicians and public figures, in 1993.

Macdonald-Cartier International Airport is the sixth busiest airport in the country. It handles about 5 million passengers annually. It has 3 runways, the main passenger terminal, and two general aviation terminals.

The city centre can be reached by express bus route 97 (boarding is done near columns 13-16 on the external roadside). There’s a special transit way for the route. The airport has bus stops (columns 9-10 on the internal roadside) and provides limousine, taxi, charter bus, and car rental services. Passengers are only allowed to board taxis from Level 1 of the arrivals area.

Several large agencies — Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National car — provide car rental services at the airport. The offices of the companies are situated on the first level of Parkade P1. The multi-storey car park is located opposite the passenger terminal. The garage can be accessed directly from the terminal through the departure level of the terminal. The offices of all the companies are open from 7 am till 1 am. The vehicles are taken and returned in Parkade P1.

The airport also works with the companies called Routes and Discount Car. Their customer service offices are situated outside the airport at 1749 Bank Street (Discount Car) and 2644 Leitrim road (Routes). Both companies provide free transfer to the place where a car can be rented. Return of the vehicle is done according to the rental agreement. Read all...
Enjoying SUV and sightseeing of Ottawa
Of equal interest is the Alterna Savings Crack Up Comedy Festival taking place in mid-February. None of its visitors have ever complained of boredom. On the contrary, be ready to laugh your head off - this is perhaps one of the main features of the festival. All because the best comedians and standuppers from all over the world are invariably invited as participants. Musical accompaniment is always present at the event. The festival is also interesting for Guinness World Records that have been set more than once here. For example, at one of the earlier festivals, the maximum number of snowmen was built of ice in an hour. Performances are held in Lansdowne Park, and the award ceremony marking the end of the event takes place in the Westin Hotel.

As is known, Mid-March is the time of St. Patrick. The saint is loved not only in Ireland but also in Canada - and its capital is no exception. A week before St. Patrick's Day (the second Sunday of the month), colorful fancy-dress parades are held in Ottawa, the central streets of the city are painted in all shades of green - from pistachio to emerald. Not only representatives of the Irish diaspora celebrate the holiday - all people join in the fun. Besides beautiful processions, the program also involves music and dance shows. Of course, music and dances correspond to the dominant theme - not a single visitor to the festival can resist the energetic beats of Celtic music. Also, no one should forget about a culinary program and an interactive one, consisting of games and contests.
