The maximum permitted alcohol blood content is 0.5 ppm. The punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol depends on the level of exceeding the limit and includes not only a monetary fine. In some cases the driver can be imprisoned.
If the alcohol blood content ranges from 0.5 to 0.8 ppm, the driver must immediately pay the fine of 150 euro; he will be allowed to drive again in three hours. If the driver refuses to pay the fine on the spot, his case can be submitted to court and the amount of the fine will be increased to 3,000 euro.
If the blood alcohol content is more than 0.8 ppm, the offender will have to pay the fine of 600 euro, and he will be allowed to drive his vehicle again 6 hours later. The abovementioned sum of money must be paid on the spot, otherwise the case will be submitted to court, and the sum of the fine will be increased to 12,000 euro. The suspension of the driving license for the period of up to 2 years can be imposed as an additional punishment.
