It was built in 1928 and since then it has been an important link in the island's water supply system. In the immediate vicinity of Nassau is the ancient Fort Charlotte whose construction was initiated in the colonial period by King George III. He named the large-scale fort in honor of his wife Charlotte. Officially, the construction of the fortification began in 1787 and lasted more than ten years. At the time of its completion, the fort became one of the most powerful defensive structures on the island. Throughout hundreds of years of its existence, it has managed to avoid severe destruction.
