Jurmala is not the best place for fans of extensive shopping. Prices are quite high here. They are higher in Jurmala than in most major European cities. The choice of branded clothing is small here. You can see high-quality items from the latest collections in the city. But if you want a large range of clothes and shoes, you'd better go to Riga. If you do not intend to completely update your wardrobe or buy perfume for all occasions but just want to buy a dozen or two souvenirs, you will have no problems with this in Jurmala. Almost all local shops are located on Jomas Street. This is the main tourist and walking artery of the city. If you want something "very Latvian" you should go to the markets. It will be better to visit the Flower Market in Maiori or the Old Market in Kauguri. The range of products is not very impressive here. But the color is there. So you should wander between the rows for at least a couple of hours. If you want to visit a regular supermarket, you should go to Rimi. Everything is sold there – from food to clothing and electronics. Amber is one of the most common souvenirs from Jurmala. There is a lot of it here. Local craftsmen have been working on this material for many centuries. Rings, pendants, and crosses are made of amber. It is inserted into paintings, lighters, paperweights, and figurines. Amber is framed with gold and silver. Even if you do not specifically look for jewelry with amber, you will still find an amber brooch or earring.
